St Machars Cathedral boasts stunning stained glass windows and a heraldic ceiling bearing 48 coats of arms. The site dates back to 580AD although the cathedral opened in 1131. After the execution of William Wallace in 1305, his body was cut up and sent to different corners of the country. His left quarter ended up in Aberdeen and is buried in the walls of the cathedral.
